Kolkata

The City of Joy

Kolkata is a city that lingers in the heart long after you leave. It's where grand colonial buildings meet colourful bazaars, where time feels unhurried, and where every corner hums with stories of art, poetry, and passion. The city welcomes you not with spectacle, but with soul-through its food, music, and the warmth of its people. For us, it's home, and we can't wait for you to feel its magic too.

Victoria Memorial

Victoria Memorial

Kolkata's crown jewel, the Victoria Memorial, is a stunning marble monument built in honour of Queen Victoria and a must-visit for history buffs. Inside, you'll find a museum offering a peek into Kolkata's colonial past, while outside, the sprawling gardens are perfect for a relaxed stroll. During the evening, the monument lights up beautifully, and the light-and-sound show brings the city's history to life in a fun way-making it one of the most iconic photo spots in town.

Howrah Bridge

Howrah Bridge

No trip to Kolkata is complete without experiencing the iconic Howrah Bridge-a massive steel marvel that connects the old and new parts of the city. Walk across it, drive over it, or admire it from the ghats to feel the city's pulse. Sunrise and sunset bring the river and skyline to life, while at night the bridge lights up beautifully-making it an unforgettable sight and Kolkata's most famous landmark.

Park Street

Park Street

The heart of Kolkata's nightlife and old-school charm, Park Street is lined with legendary restaurants, bars, bakeries, and colonial-era buildings. From classic Anglo-Indian cuisine to late-night live music, this buzzing stretch is where the city truly comes alive. Perfect for an evening out, a food crawl, or just soaking in Kolkata's timeless energy.

Prinsep Ghat

Prinsep Ghat

Right by the Hooghly River, Prinsep Ghat is one of Kolkata's prettiest spots-colonial architecture, breezy evenings, and stunning sunsets included. Take a boat ride, stroll along the promenade, or just sit back and watch the Vidyasagar Setu light up after dark. Locals love it for everything from romantic walks to lazy catch-ups with friends.

Belur Math

Belur Math

For a serene escape from Kolkata's chaos, visit Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission founded by Swami Vivekananda. Perched on the banks of the Hooghly, it's known for its calm atmosphere and striking architecture that blends Hindu, Christian, and Islamic styles to symbolise unity. The best time to go is late afternoon, when the sunset and evening aarti create something truly magical. It's about a 30–45 minute cab ride from central Kolkata-bonus, you'll likely get a beautiful drive across the Howrah Bridge.

Eat & Drink in Kolkata

Bengali Cuisine

  • 6 Ballygunge Place - The gold standard for Bengali home-style food - multiple courses, traditional recipes, and flavours that are comforting, balanced, and deeply local. You’ll most likely need a nap post a meal here.
  • Oh Calcutta - Great for first-timers who want to try Bengali classics such as fish curries, mustard flavours, and traditional desserts without feeling overwhelmed.
  • Sonargaon (Taj Bengal) - Elegant, heritage-style Bengali dining - refined flavours, impeccable service, and a calm, luxurious setting - perfect if you want to experience Bengali food at its most graceful.
  • Arsalan - A Kolkata biryani classic. The biryani here is fragrant, subtly spiced, and true to the city’s style - light on heat, heavy on aroma, with that iconic potato soaking up all the flavour. Portions are generous, the menu is no-nonsense (biryani is the star), and it’s almost always busy - which is usually the best sign you’re in the right place.

North Indian / Awadhi

  • Dum Pukht (ITC Sonar) - Slow-cooked Awadhi cuisine inspired by royal kitchens. Rich gravies, fragrant biryanis, and food that takes its time - best saved for a long, indulgent dinner.

Continental / European

  • Mocambo - Old-school and no-frills. Famous for devilled crab, ( the chicken a la kiev, fish florentine and prawn cocktail are personal favourites), baked dishes, and thick sauces. It’s loud, crowded, and wonderfully nostalgic.
  • Peter Cat - A Kolkata institution. Must visit for the legendary Chelo kebabs and sizzlers!

Chinese / Indo-Chinese

  • Chinoiserie (Taj Bengal) - Classic Indo-Chinese done right - bold flavours, generous portions, and dishes that Kolkata locals swear by. Slightly old-school, but very satisfying.
  • Mainland China - Serves a more modern Chinese cuisine. Clean flavours, consistent quality, and a safe (but tasty) choice. Dumplings and prawns are a must try here.

Cafés

  • Roastery Coffee House - Great coffee, spacious airy interiors, and a menu that works just as well for breakfast, brunch, or a mid-day caffeine rescue. Perfect if you need a break from heavy food - and a peek into how modern-day Bengalis unwind over coffee, in a Bengali setting.
  • Sienna - A café-meets-design-store serving contemporary Bengali food. Seasonal healthy menus, thoughtful plating, and great coffee. You should definitely check out the small and chic handicrafts and clothing store.

Bars & Hangouts

  • AM PM - All-day hangout that effortlessly shifts from coffee spot to bar. Good for casual meals, drinks, and decompressing after a long day out.
  • Little Bit Sober - Cosy, relaxed, and perfect for long conversations. Known for its bar bites, amazing cocktails, and “let’s just sit here for hours” energy.
  • Nutcase - A must-visit if you’re in the mood for fun, innovative cocktails in a chic, lively space with community-style seating. Small, cosy, and definitely requires reservation, with a small menu that puts a unique, savoury twist on cocktails.

Bakeries

  • Flurys - An absolute Kolkata classic. Breakfasts, pastries, hot chocolate, and old-world charm - it feels like stepping into Kolkata’s colonial era.
  • Kookie Jar - Famous for its cookies, brownies, and celebration cakes - Kolkata kids have grown up on this place. A must-try is the double chocolate truffle cake… which Sahana would happily fight for (or emotionally collapse without).

Indian Sweets

  • Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick - Traditional Bengali sweets with a gourmet twist. Beautifully packaged, dangerously sweet and addictive, and perfect for gifts (or personal consumption and hoarding).
