Event Description
Biye (Bengali Wedding)
(Sampradan & Sindoor Daan)

Now, once the music and laughter calm down a little, we move into the more traditional (but equally fascinating) part of the Bengali wedding.
First is Sampradan, which is the official “handover ceremony.” The bride’s father literally places her hand into the groom’s hand through a sacred cloth, symbolising the family’s blessings and approval. It’s heartfelt, emotional, and basically the parents saying: “She’s your responsibility now-good luck!”
Then comes Saptapadi, or the seven steps. The couple takes seven rounds around the holy fire, each step symbolising a different promise-like loyalty, trust, prosperity, and companionship. In short: marriage vows, but with fire and Sanskrit mantras. Don’t worry if you don’t follow every word; just know the fire is sacred, the promises are forever, and there’s zero chance of escape after step seven.
Finally, the big one: Sindoor Daan. This is when the groom applies sindoor (a red vermillion powder) to the bride’s hair parting, marking her as married. Traditionally, sindoor was believed to protect the couple and ensure a long married life. It’s also the moment that seals the deal-no going back! Expect a cheer from the crowd, a few happy tears, and lots of camera flashes.
